11 May 2020 – Adapting to the new normal
As well as delivering meals to people in our area who can’t get out at present, I’ve also been finding alternative suppliers for me and my family. That's because I live next door to my parents, who are classed as very vulnerable, and I’m shopping for them, too.
Doing this has led to some enjoyable drives around the Kent and Surrey countryside. My favourite lockdown destination is our local delicatessen, which is based next to a vineyard on a winding country lane a couple of miles from home.
The shop has significantly increased its range of groceries and ready meals and you can order online, drive into the car park at an agreed time and they will put your order into your car’s boot, minimising contact and maximising safety for everyone.
The Kamiq’s peppy 1.0-litre petrol engine is easily up to the task of driving me around the hills of the North Downs, and I’m pleased to say that the change from motorway commuting to A-roads hasn’t affected the overall fuel economy, which remains steadfastly around 44mpg.
While celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day, my partner and I decided to do our own red, white and blue tribute using vehicles. None of our line-up are from British brands, but we were happy with the way they complimented our home-made decorations.
