Used Vauxhall Astra 2022-present reliability
Category: Family car
The Vauxhall Astra is comfortable, practical and now reasonably priced when used.
What should I look for in a used Vauxhall Astra hatchback?
When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.
There isn't anything specific to the Astra to look out for yet. When Euro NCAP tested the Astra for safety in 2022, it awarded it a slightly disappointing four out of five stars. The VW Golf, with its five-star rating, provided better chest protection for the front passenger in a frontal impact.
At least there’s plenty of safety equipment fitted as standard from new, including automatic emergency braking (AEB), lane-keeping assist and speed-limit sign recognition.
You’ll need to opt for an Ultimate trim car if you want lane-change assistance and rear cross-traffic alert, though.

Is a used Vauxhall Astra hatchback reliable?
Based on our car brand data, we have our concerns about Vauxhall Astra reliability, although we reserve full judgement until it appears as a model in our What Car? Reliability Survey.
The older 2015-2022 version of the Astra did appear in our survey, and it finished a poor 23rd out of 29 cars in the family car class with an overall score of 83.5%.
In our 2023 survey, Vauxhall ranked 30th out of 32 manufacturers, with a poor reliability rating 0f 86.9%. It only proved more reliable than Alfa Romeo and Cupra, with brands like Ford, Skoda and VW ranking higher.
With this in mind, the Astra should be more reliable than the Cupra Leon, but less reliable than cars like the Ford Focus and VW Golf.
