The Vauxhall Astra blends value with good ride comfort, tidy handling and adequate performance, but struggles to trouble the best family cars in other areas. If you do buy one, we recommend going for the 1.2-litre 130 petrol engine and mid-spec GS trim.
This entry-level Astra comes with alloy wheels (16in on petrol cars or 18in on the all-electric model), automatic lights and wipers, LED headlights, climate control, keyless ignition and cruise control.
The only version of the all-electric Astra combines a 54kWh battery and a 153bhp electric motor driving the front wheels. The range is 259 for the hatchback and 255 for the estate, which is decent but not especially competitive.
