Read full Skoda Fabia reviewThe Skoda Fabia is practical, comfy, well priced and remains one of the best small cars on sale today. True, some rivals might be better to drive, more efficient or nicer inside, but it still manages to be good in every area and should be on your small-car shortlist. Our pick is the 1.0 95 TSI engine, while SE Edition keeps costs down.

See full engine specsIf you want as much oomph as possible, the 1.5 TSI 150 is the engine you’ll want to go for. Producing 148bhp, it reduces the 0-62mph sprint time to 8.0sec and, as you might expect, feels far quicker than the Fabia’s other offerings. You can only have this engine with top-spec Monte Carlo trim, though, and it’s only available with the DSG automatic gearbox.
