Renault unveils new Megane Estate
* Extended wheelbase * Bigger boot than Focus estate * On sale in August...
Hot on the heels of the latest Grand Scenic, Renault has unveiled another practical new model, the Megane Estate.
The all-new model, which goes on sale on August 21, is based on the latest Megane hatchback, but the larger boot and longer wheelbase (up by 6.2cm) make it a lot more practical.
Boot capacity is an impressive 524 litres with the seats up, or 1600 litres when they're folded down. That gives the Megane Estate slightly more capacity than estate versions of the Ford Focus and VW Golf.
The boot has a separate storage compartment under the floor and the front passenger seat folds forward to cater for longer items.
There's also 25 litres of stowage space around the cabin, including a nine-litre glovebox, front and rear door bins and underfloor cubbyholes.
Initially, five petrol and five diesel versions will be available. These will be 1.4-, 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrols and 1.5-, 1.9- and 2.0-litre diesel engines. The final line-up has yet to be confirmed, but the smallest diesel should produce CO2 emissions of just 116g/km.
Trims and equipment levels are expected to follow those of the hatchback.
Prices haven't been announced, but we expect a premium of around £750 over the hatchback, so prices should start at just over £14,000.
