New Toyota Aygo X vs Hyundai i10: verdict

The new Toyota Aygo X blurs the lines between city car and small SUV. Let’s find out if that’s the way ahead or a bridge too far...

New Toyota Aygo X vs Hyundai i10 front twin

Our verdict

The Aygo X puts up a good fight, with its lower running costs and longer list of safety tech giving it plenty of appeal, particularly if you’re in the fortunate position of being able to consider one as your first car. It also handles more tidily than its rival and is cheaper if you buy on PCP finance, as most people will.

We reckon it’s worth spending the extra to get the i10, though. For starters, it feels like the classier product. But more significantly, its roomier interior, cushier ride, superior refinement and stronger performance combine to make it much easier to live with. It may not look as distinctive as the SUV-inspired Aygo X, but the i10 remains our pick at the tiny end of the small car class.
