Big jump in UK car production
* Increases by 28.6% in June * Follows rise in sales, too * Caution for the future, though...
UK car production has increased by 28.6% in June, when compared with the same period a year earlier.
Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders revealed that almost 118,000 cars were produced last month.
Car sales rise, too
The increase follows on from news that UK new car sales had increased by 10.8% in June compared with a year earlier.
Paul Everitt, the SMMT's chief executive, said: 'Continued investment in new products and technology is helping to sustain growth for the sector, while rising demand from export and home markets is maintaining momentum.'
However, Mr Everitt also sounded a more cautious note for the future, saying: 'The coming months remain uncertain and sustaining economic recovery in major markets around the world remains the industrys top priority.'
The SMMT says that it expects to see a slowing in growth over the coming months, and even a few 'dips' in production.
