Audi R8 5.2 V10 FSI quattro
* All the car launches from Detroit * New Mercedes E-Class and Jaguar XFR * Toyota Prius, too...
Meet the Audi R8 5.2 V10 FSI quattro, the fastest road-going Audi ever built.
It is powered by a 518bhp 5.2-litre V10 petrol engine with 391lb ft of torque.
As a result it travels from 0-62mph in 3.9secs when the launch control mode is activated and has a top speed of 196mph.
The 0-200kph (124mph) time, which has only been given for the car fitted with the optional R tronic sequential gearbox, is 12.0sec. Fitted with the same gearbox, the car averages 20.6mpg.
The R tronic gearbox has been designed to give as close to a racing performance as possible. Shifts are made via paddles behind the steering wheel and take less than a tenth of a second.
Audi's magnetic ride system is fitted as standard, changing the characteristics of the suspension according to the road surface and driving style.
Buyers have the option of ventilated 15-inch steel brake discs or ceramic discs, which are lighter and more effective.
Other details include 19in alloy wheels and the use of 54 LED lights in the headlamps, which are said to more closely resemble daylight.
Interior highlights include heated leather seats, satellite-navigation, air-conditioning, an alarm and a Bang & Olufsen sound system.
No UK Audi R8 price has been revealed, but it will cost 142,400 Euros (about 123,000). The car will go on sale next spring.
