The latest Mercedes SL trades the previous version's slightly dumpy looks and handling for something more aggressive. It's still more of a grand tourer than a sports car, but is now extremely composed, and with its extra dose of practicality it’s more versatile than ever.
The SL 43 features the same turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine as found in Merc’s A45 hot hatch. In this application it produces a healthy 376bhp and delivers punchy performance – 0-62mph takes an official 4.7 seconds.
