Is a used Mercedes C-Class estate reliable?

The latest Mercedes C-Class Estate is yet to appear in our What Car? Reliability Survey. The saloon version of the older 2014-2021 car finished in eighth pace out of 24 cars in the executive car class, though, with a score of 93%.

Reliability rating 93.0%

The exhaust system and engine electrics were the biggest bugbears for Mercedes C-Class owners, who told us 27% of their cars had a glitch. They also reported some issues with the bodywork, fuel system and non-engine electrics. While Mercedes paid for 82% of remedial work, some owners were left with bills of up to £500. Although most cars could still be driven and 47% were back on the road in a day or less, 36% were in the workshop for more than a week.

As a car brand, though, Mercedes ranked 24th out of 32 manufacturers in our 2023 survey. Its overall reliability score was 89.8%, which puts it above Audi and Jaguar, but below BMW and Porsche.

Based on this alone, the C-Class Estate should be more reliable than the Jaguar XF Sportbrake, but less reliable than the BMW 3 Series Touring.
