Used Kia Sportage 2010 - 2016 reliability
Category: Family SUV
The Kia Sportage may not be as good to drive as some rivals, but it gets lots of kit and has plenty of style
What should I look for in a used Kia Sportage 4x4?
The Sportage is quite a large car that will have been used in tight city centre car parks and on school runs, so check the extremities for any scuffs or dents. Look at the alloy wheels to see if there's kerb damage. Make sure the seats slide as they should and the tailgate opens without sticking. Also, check the electrics in the interior, especially around the sat-nav and climate control.
Leather seats have been known to rip/tear and some owners have reported a problem with the ISG stop-start system. There have also been reports of new fuel filters needed after complete loss of power on diesels and rear numberplate lights have been known to fail because of water infiltration. In addition, lots of condensation forming on the front windows abdwindscreen means they are often hard to clear.
Overall, though, Kia has a good reputation for reliability. In our most recent survey, the Sportage finished in sixth place in the small SUV class with an excellent score of 88%. Kia as a brand finished in 11th place out of 32 manufacturers, with an impressive score of 81%.
