If you don’t plan to go off-road, the Wrangler is not the car for you – a Land Rover Defender is a much more comfortable and refined daily driver. However, if you want the best off-roader currently on sale, the Wrangler Rubicon is where we'd point you. With off-road goodies such as standard-fit knobbly tyres, three differential locks and a proper low-range gearbox, it will go places that stop a Defender in its tracks.

It’s hard to call Sahara ‘entry-level’ because it comes packed with kit including climate control, ambient interior lighting, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, adaptive cruise control and a powerful Alpine audio system.

There is only one engine available for the Wrangler: a 268bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol, which comes with a standard eight-speed automatic gearbox. It’s quiet and smooth and delivers its power in a linear manner. The official 0-62mph time is a mere 7.2 seconds.
