The Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster is the very definition of a niche proposition. It falls short of commercial vehicle classification and lacks the on-road polish or thrills of a Ford Ranger Raptor. However, if you want a practical, unstoppable off-roader with a character all its own, the Quartermaster has plenty of appeal – provided you can justify the price.

On top of the standard equipment you’ll find on other versions, it gets locking front and rear differentials, a raised air intake, chunkier off-road tyres, heated wing mirrors and a few other bits to make it easier to live with.
The engine
See full engine specsThis diesel engine has less power than the petrol variant, but offers around 70lb ft of extra torque, giving you extra shove for climbing up rocks and steep inclines. That makes it ideal for those wanting to spend their time off road, but it's fairly slow compared with rivals, covering 0-62mph in 9.9sec, and quite agricultural in noise and the way it sends vibration through the steering wheel.
