A well-equipped and relatively spacious large electric SUV, but its average ride, so-so build quality and relatively slow maximum charging rate are a bit disappointing. If you have your heart set on one, we recommend the entry-level Standard Range RWD for the best value.

The entry-level trim comes with plenty of standard equipment, including LED headlights, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a heated windscreen, wireless phone-charging, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera. This is our pick of the trims.

The entry-level, rear-wheel-drive Mach-E is our pick. The 68kWh (useable) standard range battery and motor set-up produces a respectable 265bhp and will officially take you 273 miles on a single charge – we made that 211 miles in the real world. And it's quicker than a Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Performance, turning out 0-62mph in 6.9sec. The all-wheel-drive version has the same power and accelerates quicker (0-62mph in 6.3sec) but its range drops to 248 miles.
