Used Citroen C1 2014-2022 reliability
Category: City car
Cheap to buy and cheap to run, a used Citroen C1 is a fine city car.
What should I look for in a used Citroën C1 hatchback?
The C1 is designed as a city car, so look for damage to alloy wheels (if it has them) for any kerb damage.
Look also for scrapes or dents to bumpers and body panels, because these maybe costly relative to the price of the car to repair and will affect the resale value if you don’t fix them.
What are the most common problems with a used Citroën C1 hatchback?
Infotainment issues
All C1s bar the entry-level Feel get a 7.0in infotainment touchscreen. Bear in mind that the MirrorLink function (whereby the apps on your phone are displayed on the screen) isn’t compatible with all iPhones, so make sure you try connecting your phone to the C1 you're looking at before committing to buy.
Steering column may fail unexpectedly
A component of the steering column may not meet specification and could fail. If this occurs there would be a loss of directional control. This recall for the 2014 model year has affected 342 vehicles and can be resolved by contacting your local Citroen dealer, where the fix should not cost you anything.
Is a used Citroën C1 hatchback reliable?
The Citroen C1 didn't feature in our most recent reliability survey.
However, we know from previous reports that the C1 is well put together, and was ranked as the joint 8th most reliable small used car according to our 2023 reliability survey covering cars between six and 20 years old. That's no mean feat, and it matched the Skoda Citigo.
As a car brand, Citroën came 14th out of 32 manufacturers. Its overall reliability score was 92.3%, beating Nissan and VW but falling short of manufacturers like Hyundai and Kia.
