Following a comprehensive mid-life facelift, the BMW 1 Series remains competitive in the premium family car class, although it's not quite class-leading. Its main strengths are punchy performance and a top-notch interior, but the 120. version's smaller boot and the lack of an iDrive controller are a shame.
