Used Audi A6 Allroad 2018-2021 reliability

Category: Estate car

The A6 Allroad is comfortable, quiet and beautifully built. If you don’t need the rugged looks the regular, cheaper A6 Avant is just as impressive.

Used Audi A6 Allroad 2018-2021 review
Star rating

What should I look for in a used Audi A6 Allroad estate?

All versions of the A6 Allroad come with a minimum of six airbags and a host of electronic driver aids, including an automatic emergency braking (AEB) system that can recognise pedestrians as well as cars. While the A6 Allroad hasn’t been tested by Euro NCAP, the regular Audi A6 Avant has and was awarded a maximum five-star rating. If you check the category scores, you’ll see that the A6 Allroad isn’t quite as good as the V90 at protecting adults’ chests when they’re in the front seats.

Optional safety kit includes adaptive cruise control with steering assistance (a useful tool for high-mileage drivers that spend a lot of time on the motorway) and traffic sign recognition to keep you abreast of the speed limit. You can also add a blind-spot warning system and cross-traffic alert (a system that tells you if there’s a car about to cross your path when you’re reversing out of a parking spot). Those features come as standard with the Vorsprung trim.

Faulty crash sensors

A small number of cars made between 1 July and 15 September 2020 were fitted with faulty crash sensors for the front side airbags. Check with an Audi dealer to find out if your car is affected by this because the sensors will need to be replaced if it is.

Moisture in the mild-hybrid system

An issue with moisture getting into the mild-hybrid system has been found with cars manufactured between 10 August 2018 and 11 March 2020. Find out if your A6 is affected by this because repairs will need to be carried out at an Audi to prevent future issues.

Panoramic sunroof glass

There's a possibility that the glass fitted to the panoramic sunroof of some cars built between 16 July and 10 October 2018 could become unstuck from the frame. Check with an Audi dealer whether or not your A6 is affected by this, because the glass will need to removed and stuck back into place if it is.

Audi finished a disappointing 22nd out of 31 in the 2020 What Car? Reliability Survey – well behind BMW and below Volvo, but above Mercedes.

The A6 Allroad is covered by a three-year or 60,000-mile warranty (whichever comes first). That’s a match for Volvo’s warranty, but BMW and Mercedes provide a three-year warranty with no mileage limit.
