VW concept hints at five-door Up's looks
* Rugged styling elements will be removed * Arrives in summer 2012 * Same length as three-door model...
Volkswagen has confirmed that the five-door version of its new VW Upcity car will bear a close resemblance to the Cross Up concept car that it showed at last month's Frankfurt motor show.
The five-door model will go on sale by August, while the three-door will arrive on the spring.
A VW spokesman said the five-door car is likely to carry a premium over the three-door version, with prices estimated to start at around 8500.
Both cars are expected to be 3540mm long and 1640mm wide.
The production-ready model is expected to come with a few changes over the Frankfurt show concept car; the rugged-looking plastic cladding will be removed and the pop-out windows replaced by roll-down versions.
Volkswagen has said that there is unlikely to be a production version of the roofless Buggy Up, but the sporty GT version could yet be built.
