Our verdict
What this test proves is that the Honda E is more than just a pretty face. It's a very desirable small electric car, and if it fits into your lifestyle you'd be more than happy with it. It's well equipped, for starters, has a great interior, is zippy around town and is impressively refined. However, with such a short range, you’ll have to be committed to the idea of using it as a local commuter car or have access to something with a more conventional engine or a longer range.
The Peugeot e-208 really could be your only car. It's not quite as nippy and manoeuvrable around town, but it has five seats, a much larger boot, a longer range and the benefit of faster charging. It's also slightly cheaper to buy at this age, and that seals the deal for us.
