Used test: BMW 5 Series vs Jaguar XF verdict

Pick up either of these two luxury saloons at six years old and you'll save around £30,000 off its price when new, but should you go BMW 5 Series or Jaguar XF?...

Our Verdict

If you're after a strong engine and sharp drive – perhaps you're a petrolhead looking for a suave saloon – the Jaguar XF doesn't disappoint. However, keep in mind that these are luxury cars. When it comes to refinement, comfort and quality, the BMW 5 Series is simply the superior car.

Its ride is more supple and composed, and it's impressively quiet on the move. What's more, even though the 520d is easier to justify cost-wise, this 530d packs the straight-line gusto to best its rival. It comes out on top.
