Used test: Alfa Romeo Giulia vs Volvo S60 verdict
By choosing used, you can make a huge saving off the price of either of these stylish executive cars. But is it the Giulia or S60 that gets our vote?...
Our verdict
Take reliability out of the equation and we'd enthusiastically cite the Alfa Romeo Giulia as the executive car to go for, its core strength being that it's amazing to drive. Put reliability back in, though, and we struggle to recommend the model. If you are to take the plunge (and we don't blame you, for the Giulia is built to swoon), then we'd suggest seeking out an example that's being sold by a dealer offering a comprehensive, lengthy warranty. Be prepared to exercise that warranty, too.
Now, the S60's reliability record isn't perfect, but it's much more confidence inspiring and, in the end, that's why we've given the number one spot to the S60 over the Giulia.
Mind you, there are other strengths to be found in the S60, namely its plusher interior. Our key piece of advice on this side relates to the specification: opt for a non-R-Design trim, as well as smaller wheels. We realise other trims don't look as sharp, but the S60's ride will greatly benefit, providing you with a much better level of comfort.
