Peugeot 5008 (2017-present)

This is always a tough decision, narrowing down so many appealing used car buys and then picking just one overall winner.

This year, we were deeply impressed by the BMW 530e; it’s a classy and efficient luxury hybrid car that offers excellent value for money. We also love the fact that an ideal example of the previous-generation Skoda Octavia Estate, one of our favourite all-rounders, can be bought for a mere £10,000.

But in the end, one car stood head and shoulders above all the others, and that was the Peugeot 5008. As
a new car, it has long been one of our favourite large SUVs, dominating its category in our main Car of the Year Awards for three years in a row after it was launched, and now it’s become a brilliant used buy.

It still has all that we ever loved about it – its refinement, driving manners, practicality and comfort – and now adds in an eyebrow-lifting level of affordability. That a car we love so much new should be such great value when bought used is a terrific result.

Our pick You’ll find a 2018 Peugeot 5008 with the smooth and efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine in well-equipped Allure trim for just £21,000.
