Top 10 most reliable used family SUVs
Buying the right used family SUV is important, because you don’t want it to leave your loved ones stranded. Here are the top 10 most dependable, according to owners...
7. Volkswagen Tiguan - 95.7%
The first-generation VW Tiguan was a very popular family SUV, coming hot on the heels of the instant success of the Nissan Qashqai. Fortunately, the Tiguan is a bit more reliable than the Qashqai, with most issues being for non-engine electrics and the exhaust. However, because it is an older car with many examples that are outside of the manufacturer’s warranty period, some owners did have to pay to fix their issues, including one who had to pay more than £1500 to sort a fuel problem.

No, we haven’t made the mistake of including the VW Tiguan twice. This current car is a noticeable step up in terms of refinement over the older version, plus it’s slightly more reliable. Of the 20.2% that had problems, 7.1% surrounded non-engine electrics and 6.1% for bodywork. Most owners didn’t have to pay for repairs, although one owner did have to pay the diagnosis fee for a periodically freezing Bluetooth system.

5. Hyundai Tucson - 96.6%
The Hyundai Tucson is a rugged sort of family SUV that you don’t mind getting dirty, plus it's pretty dependable. Of the 14.9% of cars that gave their owners trouble, 7.5% were due to the gearbox, while the rest focused on grumbles with interior trim, bodywork and suspension. No owner was charged to sort these issues, but longer repair times hurt its overall score.
