Summer launch for Chevrolet Cruze
* On sale in July from 11,495 * Six airbags and stability control as standard * First of many new Chevrolet models...
Chevrolet has released prices for its new Focus-sized Cruze, which hits UK showrooms in July.
The Cruze will start from 11,495, which undercuts the cheapest Ford Focus saloon and VW Jetta by at least 4000.
Compact saloons such as the Cruze don't tend to be big sellers in the UK, but Chevrolet says its low prices, bold styling and generous equipment levels will make it a success.
Lots of kit, plenty of power
The engine range starts with an entry-level 112bhp 1.6-litre petrol, while higher-spec models will be available with a 139bhp 1.8 petrol unit. There'll also be two 2.0-litre diesels on offer, with either 123- or 148bhp.
Entry-level S trim will be reserved for 1.6 models and will include six airbags, stability control, remote central locking and electric front windows. Air-conditioning will cost an extra 450.
Mid-range LS is expected to be the most popular trim. It will add features such as alloy wheels, front foglights and reversing sensors.
Top-spec LT models get cruise control, climate control, electric rear windows and an upgraded stereo system. The most expensive version will be the 2.0 VCDi LT, at 15,195.
Only the start
The Cruze is the first of a glut of new Chevrolet models on the way in the next two years. It is also expected to introduce the Spark supermini, Orlando seven-seat MPV and the Volt saloon, which uses both electric and petrol power.
