Peugeot iOn revealed
* Electric city car * Version of Mitubishi i Miev * On sale next year...
Peugeot's all-electric car will be called iOn.
The car is a version of the Mitsubishi i MiEV, as part of an agreement between Mitsubishi Motors and PSA Peugeot-Citroen.
Range of 80 miles
Like the i MiEV, the iOn is 3.48 metres long, with four doors and four seats. Maximum power output is 64bhp and Peugeot claims a top speed of 80mph. Power comes from lithium-ion batteries, with a maximum range of 80 miles.
Full recharging of the batteries takes six hours using a conventional domestic socket, but there'll be a fast-charging system that allows them to be charged to 80% capacity within 30 minutes.
A 'localised communication unit' that displays battery status, distance covered and distance to the next required maintenance is designed to minimise range anxiety and appeal to fleet buyers.
The iOn will go on sale at the end of 2010. Prices and specification have yet to be announced.
