Nissan Juke vs Nissan Qashqai: practicality
These siblings are two of the best-known SUVs on the market, but is it a case of bigger is better when choosing between them? We find out...
Space and practicality
Front space, rear space, seating flexibility, boot
Although the Nissan Qashqai is obviously the bigger car, front seat space in both is impressive; even those who measure north of six feet tall won’t find themselves struggling for head or leg room. The main difference you’ll notice is the Qashqai’s extra interior width, but it isn’t as though you’ll be rubbing shoulders with your passenger sitting in the Nissan Juke.
The Qashqai’s larger proportions do give it noticeably more leg room in the back, but the Juke is far from terrible in this regard, and both cars give passengers plenty of space to put their feet under the front seats.
There’s little to split the two on head room (our test Qashqai was fitted with an optional £650 panoramic roof that lowers the ceiling a little), so taller folk in the outer rear seats won’t struggle. However, both cars have a slightly raised middle rear seat; its occupant is more likely to find their head grazing the roof lining.
As it is in the front, width is the key difference between the rear seats of the two cars; three adults will feel much more squished in the back of the Juke than in the Qashqai, but smaller folk will be perfectly happy sitting three abreast in either car.
The Qashqai has the most boot space, but not by as much as you might think. We managed to fit seven carry-on suitcases below its parcel shelf, compared with a still respectable six in the Juke.
Both cars have 60/40 split-folding rear seats for those occasions when you need to carry even more clobber, and both have false floors. When these are set in their highest positions, there’s practically no drop down from the boot entrance to the floor in either car, nor is there any step in the floor of the extended load bay when the seatbacks are folded down.
