New Lexus NX vs used BMW X5 practicality
We rate both of these SUVs highly – especially as plug-in hybrids. But should you buy a brand new NX 450h+ or a used example of the bigger X5 xDrive45e for the same money?...
Space and practicality
Front space, rear space, seating flexibility, boot
In the front of the BMW X5, you have slightly more head room than in the Lexus NX, although you'd have to be very tall to notice. Leg room is near-enough the same.
As for the rear, again, the X5 has more head room. It has more than enough leg room, too, although it's the NX that has the most. Sitting three abreast is easier in the X5, because it's noticeably wider.
While the NX makes do with a 60/40 split-folding rear seats, the X5's rear seats have a more versatile 40/20/40 split. The NX's boot has a larger volume, but it can't hold as many carry-on suitcases as the X5 can – this is due to the X5's boot being a more accommodating shape.
