This is the Mitsubishi ASX, which is on the company's stand here at the Geneva motor show.
What is it?
The ASX is Mitsubishi's first attempt at breaking into the rapidly expanding crossover category think Peugeot 3008 and Nissan Qashqai.
It aims to blend family car on-road manners with a 4x4s commanding driving position and spacious accommodation for all the family.
Under the bonnet
The big news, however, is under the bonnet. The ASX will be launched with an all-new family of common-rail diesel engines. Initially offered in 1.8-litre form, this engine uses innovative technologies, including a new variable-geometry turbocharger and variable valve-timing system a world first for a passenger car diesel engine.
An engine Stop-start system, a particulate filter, and low-rolling-resistance tyres are all fitted to boost economy a reduce emissions.
Buyers looking for a petrol option will be offered a new 1.6-litre MIVEC engine another in-house development. It will be mated with either a five-speed manual transmission or with Mitsubishis six-speed semi-automatic gearbox.
Two- and four-wheel-drive versions will be available.
