Mitsubishi announces 'compact crossover'
* Based on Concept-cX car * On sale in the UK in 2010 * Premiere at Geneva motor show...
Mitsubishi will build a new compact crossover car to go on sale in Japan early next year.
Based on the 2007 Concept c-X show car, this all-new model marks a shift in Mitsubishi's manufacturing strategy.
Rather than focus on SUVs, it wants to become a manufacturer of environmentally friendly cars and crossovers, while still retaining a foothold in the authentic 4x4 segment.
Following the introduction of the i-MiEV electric car in the UK later this year, the compact crossover will also be promoted as an environmentally low-impact vehicle.
The car will be launched at the 2010 Geneva motor show in March and will go on sale in Europe in the summer.
Mitsubishi's electric commitment
This follows on from the PX-MiEV hybrid SUV that Mitsubishi revealed at the Tokyo motor show earlier this month. It will form the basis of a model set to go on sale in 2013.
Mitsubishi has also promised that one in every five cars it makes will be electrically powered by 2020.
