Leapmotor B03 to be unveiled in October as all-electric VW ID 3 rival

Despite having only launched in the UK last year, Leapmotor is on its way to offering a fully-rounded model line-up – and the newest addition will be an all-electric family car in the form of the Leapmotor B03.

Indeed, B03 will arrive as a scaled-down version of the upcoming B03X, a small SUV due to rival the Ford Puma Gen-E and Renault 4 when it launches later this year.

Measuring 4175mm in length, the B03 will be slightly shorter than other electric family cars like the MG4 and Volkswagen ID 3, but longer than small EVs like the Mini Cooper Electric and Renault 5.

Technical details are still under wraps, but in China, the B03 gets a single front-mounted motor with either 94bhp or 121bhp. That’s less punchy than any version of the MG4 and ID 3, but it should be fine for the urban driving the B03 is designed for. Indeed, it’s closer in power to the smaller Volkswagen ID Polo and Renault 5.

Similarly, battery details haven’t yet been revealed, but Leapmotor says the Chinese-market B03 is capable of travelling up to 317 miles on a single charge – though these figures haven’t yet been fully confirmed, and they tend to differ across markets. For reference, the ID 3 offers up to 352 miles of range, while the MG4 can officially manage up to 338 miles.

Outside, the B03 bears strong resemblance to its chunkier SUV sibling, with sleek headlights and a rounded front end.

We haven’t seen inside the B03 yet, but if it’s anything like the larger B10 family SUV, it should get a large central infotainment touchscreen alongside a digital instrument display behind the wheel, and come generously equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring, along with a suite of advanced driver assistance systems.

The new Leapmotor B03 will land in the UK in 2027 after its debut at the Paris motor show in October. Prices have yet to be revealed, but given Leapmotor’s keen pricing strategy on other models, we expect it to undercut the likes of the MG4 and ID 3, at around £25,000.
