Frankfurt motor show 2019: all the star cars
Volkswagen's all-electric hatchback, Hyundai's third-generation city car and an all-new Land Rover Defender. These are the star cars on display at the Frankfurt motor show...
Mercedes EQV
Earlier this year, Mercedes unveiled a conceptual version of its electric people carrier, the EQV, and in Frankfurt we'll see the car in production form. Based on the V-Class, the EQV is powered by a 201bhp electric motor which provides a driving range of 251 miles on the WLTP test. Inside, you'll find Mercedes' MBUX infotainment system and room for up to eight passengers plus their luggage. Prices should start at around £62,000.
Mercedes EQS
Having already unveiled the EQC electric SUV and the EQV electric people carrier, Mercedes is now turning its attentions to the luxury saloon class with the EQS. As you might guess, the EQS is electric, and is powered by a 100kWh lithium-ion battery giving a range of more than 435 miles. Like the Porsche Taycan, the EQS can charge at up to 350kW, and can charge to 80% of capacity in just 20 minutes. Two electric motors produce a combined 470bhp, and the EQS has a top speed of 124mph. The EQS is due to go on sale in 2021 as a rival to the all-electric Jaguar XJ and Tesla Model S.
Seat Tarraco PHEV
As its name suggests, this is a plug-in hybrid version of the seven-seat Tarraco SUV. Power comes from a 1.4-litre petrol engine working in conjunction with an electric motor – that motor also brings an electric driving range of up to 31 miles, while the total power of the system is 242bhp. CO2 emissions are expected to fall below 50g/km on the official WLTP test.
