Car of the Year Awards 2021: Best convertible for value
A good convertible should obviously offer wind-in-the-hair thrills, but, we’re looking for a car that also delivers an enjoyable drive and a four-seat interior that makes you feel special...

For all their qualities, modern Minis aren’t generally associated with value – but in reality, the latest Convertible is one of the most affordable drop tops you can buy. What’s more, running costs are sensible, and you should get plenty of your money back when you decide to sell it on.
But don’t let the relatively low price fool you; from behind the wheel, the Mini feels every inch the premium convertible, just one that’s been shrunk a bit. The interior is a particular highlight, because it’s packed with fashionable touches such as retro toggle switches and colourful LED ambient lighting that you can adjust to suit your mood. Plus, there are quality materials everywhere you look.

With the roof down (but the windows and the optional wind deflector in place), you’re well isolated from wind bluster. And with it up, the Mini does a reasonable job of shutting out noise.
True, the Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet has more space inside, but it will cost you thousands extra to buy yet feels like a cheaper car.
