2016 Mitsubishi Mirage facelift revealed

What is it?

The facelifted Mitsubishi Mirage has been restyled to bring it into line with the rest of the Mitsubishi range.

What engines does it come with?

Two three-cylinder petrol engines will be offered: a 70bhp 1.0-litre and a 1.2-litre that produces 79bhp. Both get stop-start technology to boost fuel efficiency, although Mitsubishi hasn’t confirmed official fuel economy figures.

What equipment does it have?

Mitsubishi has upgraded the interior. It now features plusher materials, new upholstery and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.

Buyers will be able to spec a 6.5in touchscreen infotainment system with sat-nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Mitsubishi has also updated the suspension, chassis, power steering and has made hill start assist standard on all models.

How much does it cost?

UK specs and prices haven’t been announced, but are likely to remain the same as the current Mirage, which starts at £9054. The facelifted model will arrive this summer.

What are its rivals like?

The Mirage still has its work cut out in this fiercely competitive segment. The class leaders - the Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia - are all very accomplished cars.
