Review

The B Class is plush, comfortable, relatively refined and really practical. If you’re looking for a genuine SUV alternative and you don’t need seven seats, it’s well worth a look. Unless you plan to do big miles, with the entry-level B180 petrol in Sport trim and add an option pack or two.

Trim: Sport

The list of standard equipment includes climate control, LED headlights, cruise control, faux-leather seats and 17in alloys. It’s worth adding the Executive or Premium pack – or both if you’re feeling flush.

Engine: B180

Performance is adequate rather than scintillating, but even with bums on all five seats and a bootful of baggage, there’s enough oomph to just up hills without thrashing the engine. That’s a good thing because, when you do rev the engine harder, it doesn’t sound particularly pleasant.
