If you plan to use your Ineos Grenadier on the road more than you do off road, we think this is probably the engine to go for. That’s because it gives you plenty of power off the line, sprinting from 0-62mph in 8.6sec, but proving more refined than the diesel. It’s not as fast as the equivalent engine in a Land Rover Defender, but it’ll never leave you wanting when overtaking or joining the motorway.

The entry-level trim is aimed at those that want to carry things rather than people, giving you two seats in the front and a large boot where the rear seats should be. The standard equipment list is off-road focused, giving you a centre-locking differential, cloth Recaro seats, permanent four-wheel drive, LED headlights and a touchscreen infotainment system with built-in off-road navigation and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone mirroring.

This diesel engine has less power than the petrol variant, but offers around 70lb ft of extra torque, giving you extra shove for climbing up rocks and steep inclines. That makes it ideal for those wanting to spend their time off road, but it's fairly slow compared with rivals, covering 0-62mph in 9.9sec, and quite agricultural in noise and the way it sends vibration through the steering wheel.

Trialmaster has been designed for off-roading enthusiasts and gets equipment to reflect that. On top of the standard equipment you’ll find on other versions, it gets locking front and rear differentials, a raised air intake, chunkier off-road tyres, heated wing mirrors and a few other bits to make it easier to live with.
