The Land Rover Discovery is hugely capable and very desirable, and equally at home both on road and off it. Go for one of the diesel engines and SE trim to keep the price down. If you have a bigger budget than that, the Audi Q7 and BMW X7 are better buys, get the best price
Trim: HSE Luxury
Range-topping trim comes with lots of standard creature comforts, including intelligent seat folding, an electrically operated sunroof, heated and cooled front seats, four-zone climate control and a surround-view camera system that gives a bird’s-eye view of the car. However, it’s too pricey to recommend.
Engine: 2.0 Si4
With 296bhp, this engine delivers surprisingly decent straight-line performance: Land Rover claims an official 0-62mph time of 7.7 seconds. However, the fact you need to rev this engine much harder than the diesels makes it feel less appropriate for a big SUV than the diesels.
