Review

The Land Rover Discovery is hugely capable and very desirable, and equally at home both on road and off it. Go for one of the diesel engines and SE trim to keep the price down. If you have a bigger budget than that, the Audi Q7 and BMW X7 are better buys,

Trim: HSE

This is the point at which keyless entry, electric third-row seats, a panoramic fixed-glass roof and heated second-row seats come as standard. If you go for HSE, it’s worth thinking about paying a bit extra for the intelligent seat-folding feature (read more on this in the seating flexibility section).

Engine: 2.0 Si4

With 296bhp, this engine delivers surprisingly decent straight-line performance: Land Rover claims an official 0-62mph time of 7.7 seconds. However, the fact you need to rev this engine much harder than the diesels makes it feel less appropriate for a big SUV than the diesels.
