The Cupra Born borrows all the good bits from the VW ID 3 and adds a slightly more polished interior and sharper handling. The entry-level 58kWh V1 version makes the most sense, although it's still much more expensive than an equivalent MG4.

Those who want toasty buns will need a V2 for its heated front seats. It also gets you bigger 19in wheels, privacy glass and a head-up display to project your speed on to the windscreen.

The fastest Born has 228bhp available, trimming the 0-62mph time down to 6.6sec (or 7.0sec) depending on which battery size you choose. In the real world, though, it’s hard to detect a difference in pace between the e-Boost and the regular car.
