The cars the Audi TT has to beat

The all-new Audi TT Coupe has been revealed at the Geneva motor show.

The TT picked up the What Car? Coupe of the Year award seven years in a row, and fans of the outgoing version will be pleased to see that the formula hasn't been changed too drastically.

It's a great car, but it faces a strong challenge from others in the Coupe class. Here are the best Audi TT rivals.

BMW 4 Series

The BMW 4 Series is larger than the Audi, but it is the car that stole the Coupe of the Year title away from the TT. The 4 Series comes with a generous amount of space for passengers and luggage. It is generously equipped, but the TT should undercut the 4 Series in terms of price.

Porsche Cayman

The Porsche Cayman is well worth considering if you're looking at the Audi TTS. The Cayman is one of the best handling sports cars at any price, and is still incredibly useable.

It has a classy interior, decent levels of practicality and competitive pricing. Unlike the TT, though, it has only two seats and equipment levels are rather stingy.

Toyota GT86

The GT86 is the lairy alternative to the TT in terms of handling. It is well suited to those that want to take their car to the track on a regular basis, as it is much more at home on a circuit than it is on the road.

It's well equipped, with just the one highly-specced version to choose from. However, the interior looks cheap compared to all the other cars here, and it is not as practical as its rivals.

Volkswagen Scirocco

The Scirocco is more like a sleek and sporty hatchback than a coupe in the TT's mould, so it is more practical than many two-door cars. It's also cheaper to buy and run, especially if you consider the smaller petrol-engines that are our pick of the range.

The downsides are familiar to most coupes, in that the rear headroom is tight and the boot is small, but these issues won't matter to many considering a coupe.
