Worlds best Beetle to be auctioned

The “world’s best” Volkswagen Beetle is to go under the hammer in the UK later this month.

A restoration project saw £55,000 invested in the 1962 1200 De Luxe model and Silverstone Auctions estimates it will fetch between £30,000 and £35,000 at the Silverstone Classic Sale on July 27th.

Rescued from disrepair in 2009, it features a rebuilt chassis and its 1192cc engine was increased to 1384cc. Nine weeks’ worth of work went into the body and paintwork alone, resulting in a ruby red finish and the Beetle’s ‘Resto-Cal’ look.

It has won top awards at various events and last year achieved the highest score in the Sandown Volksworld Show’s 20-year history.

Managing director of Silverstone Auctions Nick Whale said: “It would be hard to find a better example anywhere in the world. As classic Beetles go, you simply don’t get any better than this, the restored 1962 model.”
