The new car B-Segment – or the superminis – has long been ruled by Ford's best-selling Fiesta, with the latest new car registration figures for this segment, in July, in the UK, once again confirming the Fiesta as by far the top of the pops.
So, to compete with the successful Fiesta, any potential challenger must bring a great deal to the table. And so we see Kia's first assault, from an initial styling point of view at least, on the Fiesta's market position – called simply the European Concept.
This car may never even go on sale, but Kia has built a concept of what could be sold and they will show it at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, to see what potential customers think of it.
We can see from this mystery-style shot that the new small Kia is curvy, ultra-modern, a little chunky and a lot aggressive. Kia are calling it a “concept car that combines a mischievous character in a clearly robust and substantial yet stylish bodyshape, featuring a mix of contrasting materials in compact, purposeful dimensions. “
It's a concept car that's aimed at individuals that want big and more expensive car styling, delivered in a small and city-friendly package, and, of course, it must be highly economical.
More information about the new Kia concept will be delivered at the Frankfurt show, and if the show-goers like it, we could well see this super-high-styled new Kia on our city streets in the next few years.
