New Octavia is fastest ever

The Octavia vRS is making its world debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed ahead of its August launch, and Skoda says it’s the fastest version ever.

With a 0-62mph time of 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 154mph for the petrol hatchback version, it’s been designed with performance in mind. But Skoda is also hoping to attract buyers with a combination of practicality and generous space.

Alasdair Stewart, brand director at Skoda UK, says: “The new Octavia vRS has a very special place in the heart of everyone at Skoda. It unites our love of motorsport, sharp design and bold engineering.”

Prices start from £22,990 for a 2.0 TSI 220 PS option, while a 2.0 TDI 184 PS version represents the most powerful engine to be used in an Octavia.

A lowered ride height and advanced multi-link rear suspension are designed to exploit the car’s performance potential, but the estate still boasts 610 litres of boot space with the rear seats in position.
