MINI celebrates last of a current generation

Workers at MINI Plant Oxford have welcomed the last of the current batch of MINI hatch models off the production line, signalling the end of seven years of delivery.

There will be no mourning at the factory though, as MINI is ready to begin production on the all new model which is set for a 2014 launch.

Some 1,041,412 models of the current vehicles have been produced at the facility, accounting for almost half of the total MINI's constructed in Oxford since the site opened in 2001.

The 2006 model featured turbocharged engines and suspension enhancements, making the MINI even more fun to drive. Furthermore, customers were delighted with the improved fuel economy, when compared to the previous incarnation.

However, the Oxford plant is now turning its attention the new 2014 MINI Hatch, with the model set to be enhanced in every single way. According the manufacturer, the latest edition to the MINI family will have significant technological improvements and engine efficiency, as well as improved power delivery, driving dynamics and quality.
