Kia Rio Eco

Brand New Kia RioLast week Kia released their new Kia Rio in South Korea and also made a bold statement saying that they are preparing to take on the likes of Ford, Volkswagen and Vauxhall in the European market rather than targeting the American market as this is where Kia has seen there biggest growth in the last year. Kia bosses revealed a sales rise of 27% globally in 2010 which took the sales figures to nearly 2.1 million. Sales figures for the current Rio stand at 6,000 cars a year but Kia have projected bullish figures for the New Kia Rio insisting 20,000 vehicles a year is the target for the new Rio which is almost treble its current figure. This optimism follows the amazing period of success for the South Korean Firm as Kia wants to become a world leader in making Eco friendly cars and they see this as key if they want to break the European market. The Kia Rio Eco version will be powered by a 1.1 litre Diesel engine which returns excellent fuel figures of 88mpg while only producing 85g/km of C02 this is all helped by the Eco model which is much lighter than the standard Kia Rio.

Mr Soon Nam Lee, who is Kias director for overseas marketing said “unlike rival makers, it is not committing itself to a single technology.”We are exploring all options." One car that Kias director Soon Nam Lee could be on about is the new Kia Optima which has a 2.0 litre petrol electric hybrid engine with a small electric motor. The Kia Optima is due to arrive in Europe in 2012, then depending on how much it will cost to convert it to a right hand drive to suit UK drivers we may see it shortly after that. Another all electric vehicle based on the next incarnation of the Kia Soul may follow in 2014, Kia are also working on fuel cell technology which could be seen as early as 2015. A plug-in hybrid is also thought to be under development. As you can see the Korean firm has made its intensions quite clear and aim is to become one of the world's leading makers of fuel-efficient vehicles.
