Congratulations to Jenson Button on a great drive in the Austrailian Formula One Grand Prix. Jenson started fourth on the grid and got off to a bad start with a collision in the first corner with Ferraris Fernando Alonso, this dropped him down the field to 7th place. The weather in Austrailia was dreary and light rain demanded the cars start on intermediate tyres, Jenson Button took the decision early to come in and change to the soft compound Bridgestone slicks.
While many commentators thought this was premature Jenson jumped up to second as others had to pit. Red Bulls Sebastian Vettel held the lead until a brake failure saw him left stuck in the gravel pit. This promoted Jenson to position 1 and pulling away from the rest of the chasing pack.
Lewis Hamilton saw his 3rd position reduced to 6th at the finish due to two moments of misfortune when firstly his team decided to pit him for new tyres when the Ferraris and Jenson decided to stay out and take a chance on the current tyres lasting the distance, this proved a great decision and unfortunately for Lewis a costly one. Lewis did however put in a great drive to get up into 5th until Red Bulls Mark Webber collided with him on the penultimate lap. Jenson preserved his tyres with his smooth driving style whilst also setting personal bests lap after lap. The Austrailian grand prix proved anything but boring which is what the sport has been accused off recently.
Well Done Jenson, roll on Malaysia!
