The Audi A7 four door coupe has been a long time coming since the concept in 2009 at the Detroit Motor Show. Audi is already ahead if its rivals by opting to give the A7 an electrically-operated hatch, this will make the A7 a more user friendly proposition, Audi has still managed to retain the roof line that defines its four-door coupé characteristics.
The Audi A7 Sportback will feature a similar grille to that found on the A8 saloon, while the front looks similar to the design of the A5 coupe. The A7 sloping bonnet helps reduce the drag while improving aerodynamics. The rear of the A7 tapers down to the rear end where the active spoiler is found, the rear spoiler will operate when the car reaches high speeds to add stability, also at the rear the body coloured diffuser houses twin exhaust system.
Inside, Audi have created a spacious and luxurious cabin with plenty of space for adults with a four-seat layout. The quality of the interior finish is excellent as you would expect from Audi with the options of real wood combined with aluminium trim or leather and Alcantara trim. The A7 standard kit will include a 6.5 inch multi function monitor displaying satellite navigation, climate and phone functions. The cars Multimedia system can be upgraded to an eight inch screen with touchpad which will operate the phone and navigation systems. Other options include a head up display which projects data in front of the driver at a virtual distance of 2.5 metres providing valuable information to the driver with no need to take your eyes of the road. Also available is Audis parking assist system which allows for hands free parking.
Multitronic auto cars are front-wheel drive while the Quattro models come with a seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch gearbox as standard. The Audi A7 suspension system offers a comfortable ride but as an option you can opt for sports and adjustable air-suspension. Four engines will be made available for the launch of the Audi A7, two petrol and two diesels with Bhp ranging from 200 to 297Bhp. The most efficient engine will be the 3.0-litre TDI with fuel economy of 53.3mpg and emissions of 139g/km. The Most powerful engine is the 3.0 TFSi which produces 297bhp while achieving, 34.4mpg and 190g/km of Co2 emissions. The top spec engine manages 155mph and a 0-60mph time of 5.6 seconds. You can also expect the A7's handling to be nimble as 20% of the body is made from aluminium.
First deliveries of the Audi A7 will be due in January 2011 with prices starting from £43,745 for the front wheel drive 3.0 TDI and £47,990 for the A7 Quattro version. Prices for the petrol versions start at £45,210 for the 2.8 FSI and £48,060 for the 3.0 TFSI both models come with Audis Quattro system as standard.
