Mercedes-Benz is brilliant at building luxurious, comfortable saloons that make long journeys melt away. The E-Class Cabriolet combines those desirable attributes with a drop-top body that has space for four.
Our favourite version - the E350 CDI - has a six-cylinder diesel engine that provides effortless performance and top-notch refinement. A slick seven-speed automatic gearbox comes as standard, and official average fuel economy isn't far short of 50mpg.
Ride comfort is excellent, and although the E-Class Cabriolet isn't the sportiest drop-top, it's impeccably composed at speed. Leave the cloth roof up and the cabin is very quiet for a convertible. Lower it and the E-Class's Aircap system - a flap on top of the windscreen - keeps buffeting in the cabin to a minimum.
The boot is large, whether the roof is up or down. The dashboard design is rather plain, but most of the cabin materials are plush and build quality is solid, while standard kit is lavish.
